The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is one of the top attractions in the Yamhill Valley. McMinnville’s air museum is home to the famous Hughes HK-1 Hercules known as the Spruce Goose, the expansive museum opened in 2001 with a focus on aviation history. The planes and artifacts on exhibit span decades of flight innovation and advancement.
In 2008, the space section of the museum opened to highlight the history of space exploration. With many significant artifacts in the museum, including an interactive Lunar Excursion Module and a Titan II missile, plan to spend at least three-hours at the museum. Because the mission of the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is an educational one targeted toward kids, many of the activities and information centers at the facility are very kid-friendly. Interactive exhibits and workshops give them fun opportunities for hands-on play! The museum houses a movie theater, and it added a waterpark in 2011. The indoor waterpark (open year-round) is housed in a building with a Boeing 747 on the roof that functions as the starting point for a set of water slides. The aviation museum complex has plenty more to discover and makes an excellent full-day excursion for the whole family.
