Discover McMinnville’s past with a visit to the Yamhill Valley Heritage Center and the Historic Lafayette Museum in nearby Lafayette, both operated by the Yamhill County Historical Society. You’ll see timeworn treasures like antique farming equipment, a 1900 sawmill, and the Hutchcroft School, one of the last one-room schoolhouses from 1877 restored to all its glory.
The historical society’s mission is to protect and preserve the heritage and history of the county with a strong focus on agricultural aspects that are native to the area, as well as the Native American history that is woven into the region.
Don’t miss the annual Harvest Fest in August where you can see the old sawmill and farming equipment in action, and kids can participate in pioneer activities. Farm Fest happens every April where 20 teams compete in a plowing competition using draft horses and mules.
