If you’re looking for your next favorite coffee spot in McMinnville, look no further than Summon Coffee. And if you love a hearty breakfast sandwich at an unbeatable price, then Bad Dog Bakery has you covered. These two beloved local businesses have come together under one roof at their new location at 1208 and 1214 SW Baker St, creating a dynamic duo that’s a match made in heaven.

Summon Coffee: A Dream Years in the Making

Matthew Anderson, the owner of Summon Coffee, has been passionate about coffee since his days growing up in Sheridan. Inspired by Slow Train Coffee, a Portland-style shop, he found himself drawn to the craft. His journey led him to Flag & Wire (then known as Chrysalis), where he honed his skills and eventually managed and roasted coffee there. Though he stepped away from the coffee world just before the pandemic, the dream of opening his own shop never faded.

With the help of a stimulus payment, Matthew purchased his first coffee roaster and began selling beans to local favorites like Pizza Capo and Mac Market. Over time, Summon Coffee grew in reputation and community support. When the time came to open a brick-and-mortar location, it was only natural that it would become a space that truly brought people together—just as its name suggests.

Summon Coffee officially opened its doors in late 2024, and it’s more than just a café. With a production space in McMinnville’s Granary District, they’re working hard to build out their roastery. They continue to raise money for this project, and eventually with the installation of a 10kg coffee roaster, Summon Coffee will be able to expand its wholesale operations and direct-to-consumer sales online.

Looking ahead, Summon Coffee has big plans, including securing a liquor license this spring to offer a curated selection of beverages, and opening an outdoor patio behind their building. As they grow, one thing remains at the heart of their mission—community. It’s a family-run operation, with Matthew’s partner Michelle and brother Mark rounding out the staff, Mark crafting their syrups and chai from scratch.

Bad Dog Bakery: A Breakfast Staple

Bad Dog Bakery has been a beloved name in McMinnville’s food scene since they had their food cart for several years. Every weekend, they built a loyal following, consistently selling out of their delicious breakfast sandwiches. Now, with a permanent home alongside Summon Coffee, the tradition continues.

For just $7, you can get your hands on ‘The Spicy One’, one of their mouthwatering breakfast sandwiches, served on their scratch-made english muffins—but be warned, they sell out fast! Rest assured though, that if you miss out, they have plenty of other goodies in their bakery case, such as their even-more-famous cinnamon rolls, cookies and donuts.

More Than Just a Coffee Shop

This new space is not just a place to grab a cup of coffee or a quick bite; it’s a community hub. Summon Coffee and Bad Dog Bakery share the vision of bringing people together through good food and great drinks. Whether you’re stopping by for your morning caffeine fix or indulging in a weekend breakfast treat, you’ll find warmth, quality, and a welcoming atmosphere.

If you haven’t visited yet, make sure to stop by Summon Coffee from 6 AM to 2 PM daily, and don’t miss out on Bad Dog Bakery’s famous breakfast sandwiches Thursday-Sunday, 7:30 AM to 2 PM. It’s a partnership worth celebrating—and one that McMinnville is lucky to have!
