McMinnville Evergreen Museum – Grand Island Loop

After exploring the Evergreen Museum (home of Howard Hughes’ famed Spruce Goose!), discover the scenic Grand Island area southeast of McMinnville. This long, moderately difficult country ride will take you through lush, rolling farmland with a stop in historic Dayton.

This is a flat 31-mile route from McMinnville east to the fertile Grand Island area near the Willamette River. After a short lap across the farmland, retrace your path, head for downtown Dayton and a return to the Evergreen museum. While most roads do not have shoulders, traffic is light across most of the route.

Riders using Strava will find very three short segments while in the Grand Island area. Lush fields and very quiet roads make the 6-mile Grand Island loop perhaps the most enjoyable and relaxing portion of the day’s ride.

Oases:
Bob’s Grand Island Grocery & Deli, at the 11.6-mile marker, is a general store offering just about anything a cyclist could need including an espresso machine. Outdoor tables are shaded from the summer sun. Pass the store again on the return from Grand Island.

Juanita’s Café y Neveria, 401 Ferry Street in Dayton, offers ice cream across the street from Courthouse Square Park.

Bathrooms: Courthouse Square Park in Dayton and Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum.

Gravel: This route includes one mile of light gravel to avoid dangerous traffic conditions.

Cautions: The following locations deserve attention.
• Limited shoulders and visibility on some country roads.
